Halloween is near and many of you are excited to celebrate this day, going to trick-or-treat, playing scary pranks or staying at home with friends and eating pizza while watching horror movies or playing horror games. If you’re not going to play video games, maybe you’ll want to enjoy free slot games with the same gloomy atmosphere, matching ghosts or zombies and hearing creepy sounds that send chills down your spine. For example, Gametwist offers you a variety of games with the same eerie vibe for the ones who don’t feel like going out.

As for the video games, there are plenty to choose and we prepared for you a list with the ones that we think will scare you enough for this Halloween night.

1. Haunted slots

If we talked about slots, we made a top 3 best suited for a Halloween night: Haul of Hades, Empire V and Tales of Darkness- Break of Dawn. You certainly wouldn’t have thought that there are slots with this scary theme. However, these slots are in the “easy” category as long as we talk about horror games.

2. Slender: The Eight Pages

A classic when it comes to horror games, Slender is a free-to-play indie game in which the player has the
task of collecting eight log pages from the woods. Slender, a thin and faceless creature, will follow you and
try to stop you. Although extremely minimalist, Slender manages to deliver some of the most authentic
jumpscares present in such a game.

3. Alan Wake

Developed by the Remedy Studio, the game tells the story of a writer named Alan Wake who tries to unravel the mystery of his wife’s disappearance during a vacation in the enigmatic city of Bright Falls. Described by its creators as “the mind of a psychological thriller in the body of a cinematic action game,” Alan Wake manages to present a special atmosphere and a story full of mystery and upsets.

4. Amnesia: The Dark Descent

The game that made PewDiePie famous, Amnesia: The Dark Descent is the game that made the YouTuber legit scared. With a somber atmosphere that surrounds you and with a strange story, this horror manages to captivate the player and give him the darkest nightmares possible. Rituals, catacombs and hideous creatures are only a small part of what Amnesia has to offer.

5. Dead Space

As we have already learned from the movie series “Alien”, in space no one can hear you screaming. The idea goes with the game; a third-person survival space horror in which the main purpose of the player is to survive the hordes of necromorphs on the Sprawl space station. It should be remembered that necromorphs are some of the most hideous creatures in video games, making it easy to be scared by one as you make your way through the dark corridors of the space station.

6. Outlast

The game depicts the horrors that take place in a mysterious psychiatric hospital in Colorado. The player enters the skin of journalist Miles Upshur who is trying to find out the mystery that surrounds the hospital. From the point where Miles enters the hospital, everything takes a sinister turn: the hospital is full of corpses, mutilated bodies and a lot of questions waiting to be answered. Outlast is one of the best horror games released in the last 5 years.

7. Alien Isolation

Based on the famous sci-fi movie series of the same name, Alien: Isolation puts the player in the shoes of Amanda Ripley who, in order to escape alive from the Sevastopol ship, will have to face the threat of the Aliens which lurk in the dark. The  narrow corridors and limited ammunition manage to build a perfect atmosphere for such a game and restore the authenticity of the films.

8. Silent Hill 2

Silent Hill 2 is considered a true classic. The game guides the player, who controls James Sunderland, through the ghost town of Silent Hill in search of the protagonist’s wife. The game does not focus on the action; the character is constantly an easy prey for the hideousness that hides in the fog that pervades the city. In addition to finding his wife, James will have to find out a bit about the history of the place.

9. Resident Evil HD

As the name of this game says, we are dealing with a remaster of the first Resident Evil game. The story of the game revolves around Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, soldiers from the S.T.A.R.S. The two inspect Racoon City, the city from which the zombie virus started. Soon, our protagonists will be trapped in a zombie infested mansion, their only option being to explore the mansion and find a way out.

10. F.E.A.R.

I don’t think there’s a gamer who hasn’t even heard of the F.E.A.R. The games focus on Alma, a girl with paranormal powers that actually plays with the soldiers sent to silence her. Throughout the series, players will enter the shoes of many soldiers and try to solve the problem, in other words, to solve Alma.

11. Until Dawn

If you’re looking for a more cinematic experience, Until Dawn is the perfect game. In the classic style of horror films with masked criminals, Until Dawn tells a simple and easy-to-follow story, in which a group of young people staying at a cabin in the woods is hunted by a supernatural entity, who turns out to be the “ordinary serial criminal.” The game is an adventure game with limited control in which the player’s choices change the evolution of the story.

12. The Evil Within

Sebastian Castellanos is the protagonist of paranormal events through which he is brought into a world of nightmares. The game, a survival horror for the third person, throws waves of creepy enemies, little ammunition and a gloomy atmosphere. One of the most interesting aspects of the game is the way the decor and the verticality of the level play with the mind of the player.
